Gathering Together
Not just people, although I will enjoy the Teapot Quilters this afternoon, but also blocks. I'm a member of Contemporary Quilt, a Specialist group within The Quilters' Guild tending to Art. Without the courage to use that Big Word, however..
So, this year's Challenge theme is Fragmentation, which seems almost too easy for a cutter-up of fabrics like me. I thought of these lovely blocks, and I'm jigsawing them together. They are all different sizes, and need gently shaping and straightening and amalgamating into bigger blocks

These blocks are leftovers from one of my Moon series quilts - I made them in a fairly mindless way, from little bits of Japanese fabrics and hand-dyes, when I was desperately trying to distract myself from a very sick husband and a very very disrupted year. These were the excess having made the original quilt. I don't have a good shot of the original, but here's a detail
The Moon series are about the 13 full moons of the year, and are inspired by the traditional names and associations of these moons from many cultures. This one is February, and is called Shoulder To Shoulder Around The Fire - it's about using the last scraps of whatever you have to survive, sharing, and huddling together.. So, appropriate for this time of year. What has this got to do with Modern? Apart from the Improv, the use-it-up, and the inspiration, not much, but who cares?

3-D fun in Norfolk!
Had a great workshop in Norwich on Saturday with the lovely ladies of Norfolk Quilters teaching my BLOCK PARTY design.
They were brilliant hosts, keeping me well supplied with hot beverages and shortbread! Looking forward to teaching them again next year - they promise they will all have finished it by then!

Long Time...
...in hospital, time passes like treacle, and I have just had a simultaneous 6 days/5000 years in one noisy over-lit bed. Back home, and my Juki is here, and I've been reading this lovely book in bed before I go to sleep...
Not only a fascinating look at the whys and whatfors as much as the whats (and no patterns, no need) of quilting, but also a delight to hold and look at - a well-made book is always a pleasure. Not easy to see in the photo, but the cover has cut-outs exposing the underneath image. Thomas Knauer has to be one of the most influential voices of Modern Quilting, besides being a jolly nice chap (I recall crawling around in the middle of the Guild stand on top of one of my Tiger quilts explaining curved piecing to him in 2014, much to the overwhelming horror of the Guild bods looking on.) Modern in a nutshell...
In theory, not out till next week, but I got this on order from my local bookshop last week
