Week Of Miniatures, Day One (HH)

Sorting unfinished stuff - I started these as demo blocks a while back - blocks finish to 2 by 1-1/4 inches and are Foundation Paper Pieced, of course...
Great fun

Now have twelve; debating a setting... To sash, or not to sash, and possibly cornerstones?
More later, and on my Doesnotequal blog, link right...

Blue Moon

Left is Red Bee Moon, right Red Tree Moon, together, Blue Moon
Collaborations are fun...

Solstice Bash at the Teapot Quilters

A wonderful pick-up lunch, tea and cake, and show-and-tell, had by (almost) all...

Handwork Renews

While I was gallivanting in Bumble the Big Wagon, I took some embroidery to play with - very restful and takes up little space. The resulting piece will transform this rather uninspiring calico shopping bag, as soon as I find the rest of the pretty hand-dyed thread...
So nice to sew with a hand-dye - every stitch is a slightly different colour...
Detail of the lovely hand-printed indigo cloth I worked on, and the stitches

Not everything is Utterly Modern here

HB is quilting little 3D tablemats for inlaws' Christmas presents - nicely traditional colours!

An Ugh and a Whooppee!

After weeks and weeks of head-banging I have finished my latest opus - "Be Afrayed" a booklet on faux-chenille and slashing techniques. I'll add this to the website tomorrow and put a link up here.. Note the piece of genuine faux-chenille on every cover.
And, given half-an-hour before my online Yin Yoga, I decided to defluff my big Juki... Ugh!

Kit Packing Progresses

Remade and renewed, patterns printed, looking much more like...

HB has been packing Kismet purse kits - buy these HERE

My Curved Purses are looking good, see these HERE

And HB has a pile of sparkly fabrics for the next project...

Work In Progress

Making decisions about Kits and Patterns, taking some of the elderly-and-not-very-nice ones apart and recycling the contents; repacking; making new versions of patterns. Making a lot of tea and a nice lunch and a couple of very short dog-walks..

A productive day!

A Small Gallivant...

...to Sew and So's at Bungay, to drop off samples for the next term's classes which we are much looking forward to teaching there. The shop looks very nice and festive with lots of delicious new fabrics as well as the usual red/green/sparkly..

They close for Christmas on the 17th, so get in while you can
Then we had a nice coffee and mulled over the ins-and-outs of stallholding and new kit for same, then came home and contemplated new patterns and kits. Tomorrow, a bit of remaking, packing, and sprucing-up...

Home again, home...

Aitchbee's prize-winning New Perspectives is home from it's little tour of the Knitting and Stitching Shows. You can make one rather like this, click HERE for details

Bit Cold To Sew...

...as the men came and stole my back door. I hope, when I get back in, they will have finished...
Trad Zoom tomorrow to make Kinchaku Bags, so I'm going to have an early night, having set everything up...
Sleep well!

When we first started working together...

...we taught a Sampler Quilt - it was great fun and we learned a lot about and from each other.. In the interests of encouraging the beginners amongst you, we will be making a free BOM (Block Of the Month) starting early next year. Not everything on here, but a really good starter set...

We will be putting the blocks online at the Modern Art Quilters website HERE, of course...

Out all day...

...at the Repair Cafe. Came back for tea with HB and jollity like so (I did try to video this, but I haven't found out how, watch this space...)

Here's the pattern - make one for yourself?

and my Cheerful Goth version

December Rains...

...and we stay indoors and sew. Pretty much like the rest of the year, really.. HB is making Christmas presents for assorted family members (I won't show these yet) and I've been kite-making after quite a long break - well, there were lots cut out in the boxes and the big roll of fibreglass rods keeps on biting me in the ear when I go up into the attic...

Mini tsugaru with tails, line, and bag, just about to go online...

Working Ever-so-small

Week of miniatures, me doing small stuff as HB quilts...

Today's blocks, trimmed to 1-1/2 inches (note the 50p piece for scale) for a version of Green Venus, long sold but still a favourite

Fussy-cut!
Micro-trees

A good day's work
And the mess. Silk is frightfully messy
Original, sorry the colour is so poor
More tomorrow

Here's a Glimpse...

of my latest Goth Baby Quilt
See the page, top right, for the whole thing...

Dearie Me

Not enough posting lately. Having been somewhat moribund all Winter and Spring, now the sun is shining and we actually have Somewhere To Go (Festival of Quilts, Birmingham NEC, 29th July - 1st August), stuff needs finishing and patterns writing and such and such

Here is Little Crosses

Old Oakshott Fabrics "Summer Check and Stripe" charm squares (no, sorry, all long gone) and two whites, improv blocks and conventional-enough sashings. Ages in the making, recently finished
And 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 22 x 22, for The Modern Group Challenge "It Takes Two" - making a pattern for this soon
And, finished last night
Goth Tiger, my latest Goth Baby Quilt, ready to give away (ETA, now gone to a new home)
This is the back - interesting "Lascaux Caves" print
So, a bit of progress, now I will go and melt gently till after supper, then attack the Post

Week of Minis, Saturday and Sunday

Another place mat in gorgeous yellow, ready to quilt. The pink and green ones are finished, as is the French Hen, for which I now have all the pictures for a pattern

Table runner quilted...

And trimmed
Other things on the way, but not yet photographed..

Hanging up our Smalls

Another productive day in MiniQuiltVille: it's been a day for smalls - here's what we've been doing.

HH has been improv-ing on charm squares and mini charms, and I have been paper piecing as is my wont! Patterns for each of these mini quilt projects will be hitting the web soon. If you haven't already done so, sign up to our joint newsletter: Modern Art Quilters, to find out when. CLICK HERE to view past issues (lots of inspiration, ideas and patterns) and sign-up.

Still heading home in daylight since there's a lot of snow and ice on the roads which gave me the chance to make more of these miniature blocks while the other half was on Zoom with his Scouts.

These will finish to 1.5 inches each and I can only make a few at a time before I start to go cross-eyed and have to do something else for a bit so this one is growing slowly but I am loving it. Only another four to go.
